Ophthalmosaurus is one of the most iconic ichthyosaur. Its name, meaning “eye lizard,” is derived from its exceptionally large eyes, which provided a glimpse into its extraordinary adaptations for underwater life. This ichthyosaur lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 165 to 150 million years ago, and inhabited the vast seas that covered much of the Earth during this time.
